Undergraduate Scholarships for International Students in 2026

Search "top scholarships for international students" and you'll get a list dominated by Chevening, Fulbright, and DAAD's flagship programmes. There's just one problem if you're applying for a Bachelor's degree: none of them fund undergraduate study at all. The good news is that a genuinely solid set of scholarships does exist for undergrads. They're just not the famous names, so here's what actually works.

Government Scholarships Are Your Best Bet

A handful of countries actively compete for international undergraduates. Türkiye Bursları is one of the largest: fully funded from undergraduate through PhD. China runs something similar through the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), funding study at 280+ universities. Japan's MEXT Scholarship covers undergraduate study too, and Hungary's Stipendium Hungaricum rounds out the list.

A Small Number of Universities Fund Undergrads Directly

Clark University's Global Scholars Program offers $15,000 to $25,000 a year for four years. Berea College runs an unusual "work college" model: every admitted student gets full tuition covered and works on campus. Yale and Cornell both meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for admitted international undergraduates, though this only kicks in once you're admitted.

Don't Confuse Exchange Programmes With Degree Funding

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) funds a single year of non degree study in the US. It's useful for broadening your experience, but it isn't a route into a full US degree.

What This Actually Means for Your Search

Undergraduate funding splits into two tracks: government programmes actively trying to attract international undergraduates, or need based aid at a small number of well resourced universities that only matters once you're admitted.
